Why Aisha Jumwa is Coast's Iron Lady

HER voice's crescendos and diminuendos reverberate with strength and power of the Giriama legendary, Mekatilili Wa Menza.

The colonial heroin defied the injustices meted by the British and galvanized a strong army of native followers to oppose colonial administration and policies which included excision of native land by the White settlers.

The spirit of Mekatilili has, undoubtedly, reincarnated in Malindi sitting MP Aisha Jumwa. The ODM politician is sending unprecedented political tremors; with those eying the Kilifi gubernatorial seat in 2022 already feeling the uncomfortable heat of being dwarfed, just four years before the election.

Kilifi County currently has an open electoral calculous, now that ODM point man in the County, Amason Jefwa Kingi  is doing his last constitutional lap as Kilifi County governor.

Grapevine has it that even the current Kilifi executive has a soft landing for the now people proclaimed iron lady, who is gathering massive support at the grassroots day by day.

Evidently, some of her political detractors are desperately skirting, albeit inconsequentially, to try to soil the popular legislator. They recently hired goons in an unsuccessful demonstration to try to tarnish Hon. Jumwa.

These competitors, some who are well known failures in their own villages, are afraid to come to the open and challenge the modern day Mekatilili.

The charismatic native of Mijikenda community enjoys cordial relationship with ODM Party leader Hon. Raila Odinga, and in the spirit of the handshake between President Uhuru and Odinga, opted to support Deputy President William Ruto in 2022.

Echoing the words of renown Coast intellectual guru, Dr. Muinga Chokwe, we say, Go Mama Aisha go!
