Roselyn Akombe has resigned as IEBC Commissioner. Details of her resignation unmask a Commissioner who has been working for Raila Odinga as a mole. Her activities in the commission were unearthed by her colleagues and thus her continued stay in the electoral body was untenable.
It can now be revealed that before she left for Dubai, where she was scheduled to take part in inspecting ballot papers being printed by Al Ghurair, Dr Akombe had a conversation with NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga. It is during their talk that the resignation idea was hatched. While in Dubai, she connected a flight to New York from where she sent her resignation letter.
Sources confide that Akombe constantly briefed Raila on the goings-on inside IEBC. The commission had, prior to her stepping down, expressed its displeasure on the leakage of sensitive information to the opposition candidate. Dr Akombe was the culprit and her colleagues were up in arms against her misconduct that violented the IEBC Act. She was also not in good terms with the Chief Executive officer, Ezra Chiloba.
The quitting of Roselyn Akombe is part of the deliberate sinister scheme hatched by NASA to destabilize the commission and cripple the repeat presidential poll. Her resignation however is likely to be inconsequential. IEBC is made up of seven commissioners including the Chairperson. Its quorum according to the IEBC Act is five members.
Dr Akombe is not new to controversy inside the electoral body. Before the August poll, she influenced the postponement of Kitutu Chache South election following the death of one of the contestants. It is alleged that the IEBC Commissioner has a secret affair with a NASA candidate who was also vying for the parliamentary seat.
