KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion could be taking Kenyan teachers for granted. Going by the recent political events he has involved himself in, it seems that Sossion is using, misusing, abusing and subjecting teachers to unnecessary conflict with their employer for his own political gain.
Amongst the trade unions in Kenya, KNUT has been the most vocal, dominant and active in terms of fighting for the welfare of its members. Sossion has been the face of KNUT and is revered and respected by teachers. He is also a confounder of the Trade Union Congress(TUC).
However, his recent openly political partisanship is a wake up call to teachers that Sossion could be playing around with their quests for better remuneration and other terms of employment, for his own personal interests.
It is coming in the open that all industrial actions he has been leading against the Teachers Service Commission(TSC) could have been politically instigated and specifically were meant to push the agenda of Orange Democratic Party(ODM) and its leader Raila Odinga.
Evidently, the unholy MoU he signed with the defeated NASA leader, and his subsequent nomination into Parliament by Raila's ODM party should guide teachers in questioning his motive at the helm of KNUT.
Notably, his later rejection of the nomination could have been as a result of the backlash and condemnations his received from his members, the teachers. It's also rumored that he was cajoled to reject the slot to allow the inclusion of defeated NASA principal Isaac Rutto, who was humiliated by former Deputy Speaker Joyce Laboso in the Bomet gubernatorial race.
While most teachers are struggling to put food on the table with their meagre pay, Wilson Sossion is flamboyant rich and owns 8 long distance trucks among other properties.
It is time teachers reconsidered their support to the KNUT Secretary General. He is a political stooge of Raila Odinga.
