An online petition has been launched in Kenya seeking to take defeated NASA presidential candidate MrRaila Odinga to the Hague for prosecution. The petition is asking Kenyans to append their signatures for the International Criminal Court(ICC) to intervene and have Raila Odinga hauled to the Hague, Netherlands, should he start violent protests over the just concluded elections.
Kenya conducted peaceful election on 8/8/2017, which was won by H.E president Uhuru Kenyatta. The election received a clean bill of health from both local and international observers, including US Cater Foundation.
However, NASA candidate disputed the results and sporadic protests erupted in Raila's strongholds of some slums of Nairobi, Kisumu, Homa Bay and Migori. The protests received international condemnations and NASA principals changed their approach from calling for violent mass action, to filing a petition at the Supreme Court which is currently ongoing.
It should also be noted that David Ndii, a controversial NASA strategist has been categorical that Raila Odinga is declared the winner or they will accept nothing else. There are possible indications that NASA would call for mass action should they lose the petition.
Filing a petition is a constitutional mechanism to solve any disputed elections and the court's verdict should and must be respected by both the petitioners and the respondents.
Facing the inevitable defeat, NASA could be preparing its supporters for mass actions as indicated by what David Ndii spews on his Twitter handle and television interviews.
It's on the basis of this fear that peace loving Kenyans have come up with a petition for former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to be take to the International Criminal Court, at The Hague for possible prosecution should he reject the courts verdict and call for violent mass action.
