The best option in creating employment for the thousands of jobless youth in Kisumu, especially those struggling and desperate to make ends meet isn't about NYS projects only; but revival of Kenya breweries and Kicomi factories.
It will not only create jobs, but also ensure productivity from the region. I had the opportunity to visit and interact with slum dwellers of Obunga, Nyalenda, Nyawita and Manyatta, and the despicable abject poverty, desperation and hopelessness are beyond measure.
The national govt should partner with county govt of Kisumu and private investors to revive these two previously major factories and build new ones.
The region still has unexploited potential in fishing, agriculture, agro processing, dairy production, poultry, tourism, hospitality and real estate sectors
